Winter travellers 'want guaranteed sun or snow'
People who headed abroad at Christmas mainly went to places that could offer a guarantee of certain weather conditions, according to experts.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) stated that leisure travellers wanted to be sure that their chosen destination offered sun or snow over the festive season.
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for the organisation, added that these destinations tended to be more popular among those heading overseas at Christmas.
He commented: "They are looking for winter sun or they want to go somewhere they can guarantee snow."
Mr Tipton stated that short city breaks tended to be more popular at the new year, as people wanted to go somewhere they could celebrate the occasion to the full.
During the run-up to Christmas, Abta highlighted Spain as one of the most popular winter sun destinations.
Meanwhile, the organisation stated that many snow sports enthusiasts were heading for places such as France and Italy.
