Underground contract set to be chosen
Procedures have begun in Bulgaria to choose the company that will develop the extension to Sofia's underground rail system, according to reports.
If the plans go ahead, then the Lozenets area will be linked up to the Nadezhda district with the inclusion of 7 new stations, reports novinite.com.
Chief executive at the Metropoliten firm Stoyan Bratoev announced that the plans had begun and stated that the tender procedures had been instigated.
In total, European Union (EU) accession funds would cover 85% of the costs and the project could be completed by 2011, for the extension that would be 6.5 km long.
A shortlist is set to be drawn up and the winner of the contract could be announced in January, the website also suggested.
Plans for the operational transport programme are also expected to be approved by the EU and could see improved transport links in Bulgaria, news that may interest property investors.
