UK nationals consider move abroad

More and more British people are considering setting up home overseas, according to a new study.

Research by currency specialists HiFX revealed that the number of UK citizens looking to emigrate has gone up by 22 per cent in the last year.

This increase was attributed to a number of factors, such as the current strength of the pound and the price of property in Britain.

However, the individual attractions of people's chosen destinations were also cited as major factors.

Mark Bodega, director of HiFX, commented: "Different destinations hold different appeal."

He added that many people were buying an overseas property in order to "test the water" and see whether living abroad would be suitable for them.

Figures from HiFX showed that many of the people buying a residence in countries such as France were doing so as a precursor to migrating on a permanent basis.

The firm recently suggested that Eurostar's new high-speed rail link between London and Paris could enable some Britons to live in France full-time and commute to the UK for work.
