UK government organisation urges Britons to look at Romania

A UK governmental organisation has urged British investors and businesses to focus on opportunities presented by Romania, citing healthy economic growth and a fruitful property market.

UK Trade & Investment is holding an investment meeting entitled Focus Romania for investors based in the north-east, featuring expert advice from commercial officer from Bucharest's British Embassy.

British exports to Romania have tripled recently and there are a "wide range of opportunities" for British firms looking to invest overseas, according to Judith McGovern, an international trade adviser with UK Trade & Investment.

Explaining the growing British connection with Romania, she remarked: "Channel 4's A Place in the Sun programme named Romania one of its top five places to invest in property over the next decade and almost 2,000 British companies are already registered in Romania, including Vodafone and Marks & Spencer."

She concluded by saying that there are now investment opportunities in Romania that "would have been unthinkable 15 years ago".

The Focus Romania meeting takes place at Newcastle United Football Club on Thursday, May 10th 2007 between 08:30 and 10:30 GMT.
