UK admits highest number of new EU citizens, providing opportunities for buy to let investment

Britain is the most popular country for immigrants moving into the European Union (EU), which could provide good opportunities for buy to let property investment.

Out of nearly 700,000 people who were admitted into the EU between 1996 and 2007, 60% were taken in by the UK, Germany or France. Overall the UK came out top with 164,540 new EU citizens.

UK countries also admitted higher than the average number of immigrants per 1,000 members of the population. On average the number was 1.4 however the UK's figure was 2.7.

The statistics show that Britain has almost consistently admitted the highest number of new citizens. This may have created a demand for affordable rental properties and suggests that the UK is one of the most promising destinations for this type of development.

A report by Shelter states that immigration has pushed up housing demand in the UK and most are looking to the private rental sector for accommodation.

Recently figures have been emerging which show that the UK property market is in recovery with house prices expected to rise next year.
