UAE to go green

People who are thinking of investing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could soon benefit from new green features in their homes.

According to Sultan Al Mansouri, minister for the economy, the country's construction sector needs to do more to help the environment.

He has called on property developers to adopt global environmental standards when creating new buildings.

This, he stated, would allow the UAE to establish a positive framework for the future and help tackle climate change.

"The construction practices we set today are our legacy for future generation," Mr Al Mansouri commented.

He added that since the real estate sector is such a big contributor to the national economy, it is in the country's interests to make it more sustainable.

Mr Al Mansouri said the sector currently accounts for nearly a tenth of the UAE's gross domestic product.

This comes after the country was highlighted as an increasingly popular property investment spot by Conti Financial Services.
