Turkish tourism minister reveals vision for future
Turkey aims become one of the world's top tourist destinations in the next 15 years by focusing on new opportunities for its tourism industry, according to a government official.
Mustafa Isen, undersecretary at the Turkish culture and tourism ministry, was speaking at conference aimed at solving some of Turkey's problems.
The Anadolu Agency quoted Mr Isen as saying he wished to foster employment opportunities and regional development, adding that the World Trade Organisation has described Turkey's potential to be come "the most preferred tourist destination in the next 10 years.
"Moreover, we would like to make Turkey one of the top 5 countries in terms of the number of tourists received and level of tourism incomes till 2020. Besides, we aim to turn the country into an international trademark," he remarked.
Mr Isen also noted the importance of stressing Turkey's rich historical and cultural heritage as a world-class tourist product.
Recently, that Anatolian Times reported that Istanbul will host a third airport in order to drive tourism volumes upwards.
