Turkish tourism industry tipped to grow
The Turkish tourism industry is likely to continue growing at a faster rate than competitors in the EU, according to an expert.
Figures compiled by the Institute of Tourism Research and Forecasts show that Turkey experienced an increase in holidaymakers of 18.5% in 2007.
Anja Braun of German travel company TUI told Spero News that conditions are right for that growth to carry on.
"Turkey continues to develop well. It offers good value for money. European Union nations find it hard to keep up with such a price-performance ratio," she explained.
The newspaper noted that the state of the currency markets means that Turkey is currently a much cheaper destination for British and US holidaymakers than countries in the eurozone.
Earlier this week, the Mediterranean Tourism Hotels Union reported that trade in Antalya has been so good in recent times that it will be difficult for anyone else to find holiday accommodation in the resort this summer.
