Turkish tourism industry still growing

The tourist industry in Turkey is still growing, with the country seeing an increase in the number of visitors to the country in the past year.

Volkan Simsek, president of the Turkish Professional Hotel Managers Assembly, told Today's Zaman that the amount of holidaymakers travelling to the country had gone up by 23 per cent during 2008.

He commented: "By the end of this year the number of the tourists visiting Turkey will be 9 million, which means a 1.4 million increase compared to last year."

Mr Simsek added that a number of hotel owners in Turkey are also turning their attention to the domestic market in a bid to raise the number of people through their doors further.

The sustained popularity of Turkey among holidaymakers is likely to be welcome news for those with buy-to-let property in the country, as it may mean consistent demand for rental accomodation.

An expert at Property Wire has stated that despite price rises in areas of Turkey of up to 40 per cent, housing in the country is still relatively affordable.
