Turkish province attracts more visitors

The Turkish province of Mugla is proving to be very popular with foreign leisure travellers, it has been revealed.

According to the Turkish Daily News, visitor numbers exceeded the 2 million mark during the first 8 months of the year.

Figures showed that this is 13% up on the same period of 2007.

This was said to be largely due to the British market, as nearly half of all incoming holidaymakers hailed from the UK.

Ahmet Altiparmak, governor of Mugla, commented: "We expect the number of tourists will be more than 3 million by the end of the year."

He added that he is hoping this growth in the tourism sector will continue into the future.

This comes after the Association of British Travel Agents revealed that the number of summer bookings for trips to Turkey went up by 20% this year.
