Turkish government praised by tourist official

A Turkish tourist official has welcomed the government's efforts to boost the country's holiday industry.

Secim Aydin, chairman of the Anatolian Hoteliers Union, said new promotional strategies such as poster campaigns were helping to open up different areas.

Speaking to the Turkish Daily News, he stated that the posters had illustrated the variety of destinations that Turkey had to offer.

Mr Aydin commented: "All of Turkey's regions are presented in posters and then a suitable market is chosen accordingly."

However, he said that some potential consumer bases, particularly people in many developing markets, were being overlooked and needed to be considered.

Last week, culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay revealed plans to promote Turkey more heavily in places such as Japan, China and the US.

He told the Turkish Daily News that he also wanted to attract about 40 million leisure travellers to the country each year.
