Turkish government aims to boost tourism
Plans to boost the number of visitors coming to Turkey have been announced by the government.
The Turkish Daily News reports that up to £73 million is to be spent on promoting the country overseas as a year-round holiday destination in 2008.
It is hoped that the marketing campaign will lead to an increase in the number of foreign arrivals outside of the peak holiday season in summer.
Ertugrul Gunay, culture and tourism minister, commented: "Turkey has riches other than sea and sand.
"That is why we give priority to 'four seasons, 12 months' tourism campaigns."
He added that "bureaucratic handicaps" would be removed by the government in an attempt to encourage more foreign investment in the holiday industry.
This comes after Volvan Simsek of the Professional Hotel Managers Association told Today's Zaman that Turkey had the potential to become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world
