Turkish Airlines reports higher profits

Turkish Airlines has announced that its profits have increased by more than half in the last year.

According to the carrier, net profit for the first 9 months of 2007 rose to £79 million - 52.4% higher than the figure recorded a year earlier.

The higher profit margin was reflected by an increase in the number of passengers, as this went up by 19.4% to 8 million during the same period.

This suggests that Turkey is continuing to grow in popularity as a destination for both business and leisure travellers, potentially boosting its appeal among foreign property buyers as a result.

Last month, Turkish Airlines announced the launch of a five-year plan designed to boost its overall number of passengers.

Temel Kotil, general manager of the carrier, stated that that it wanted to maintain the current rate of growth and transport about 30 million passengers by 2010.
