Turkey set to attract more German tourists

Turkey is set to become an increasingly popular holiday destination among German tourists, an expert has predicted.

Michael Frenzel, head of tour operator TUI, said the country was highly popular with leisure travellers from Germany and was set to attract more next year.

The Turkish Press quoted him as saying that coastal areas such Antalya were increasingly competing with tourist hotspots such as Mallorca, although he said it future prospects were brighter than those in its Spanish counterpart.

Mr Frenzel commented: "Turkey can grow bigger in the long-term when compared with Spain and some other countries that attract tourists."

He added that the country offered a range of attractions besides its good weather and beaches, such as good quality golfing facilities.

Earlier this week, the Turkish Daily News reported that up to £73 million is to be spent on promoting the country overseas as a year-round holiday destination in 2008.
