Turkey 'rivals Bulgaria as tourist destination'
Turkey is increasingly competing with Bulgaria as a holiday destination, according to a new poll.
The State Agency for Tourism quizzed holidaymakers on which countries they had thought of visiting before choosing Bulgaria, reports the Sofia Echo.
Results showed that Turkey was one of the main destinations that tourists had considered, with almost one in five people citing it as an option.
In addition, Greece and Spain were found to be highly popular and named as the country's main competitors, along with Croatia, Italy, Egypt and Romania.
Foreign tourists were also asked what activities they enjoyed while on holiday, leading more than two-thirds to say they liked resting on the beach.
Shopping and sightseeing were also found to be popular activities, along with reading and watching television.
Earlier this week, the Sofia Echo highlighted Bulgaria's popularity with German holidaymakers.
