Turkey aims to attract older tourists
Turkey is seeking to attract the older generation of tourists as it attempts to expand its beach holiday tourism credentials, according to new reports.
Senol Aydemir, a spokesman for the Turkish culture and tourism ministry, said in an interview with the Anatolia news agency that the country has a thermal tourism strategy focused on improving tourist spots in some of the most ancient regions, according to the Turkish Daily News.
Sporting activities such as golf, water sports and nature sports will also be developed, he commented.
Mr Aydemir remarked: "The aged population in Europe, our target market, has increased. If we attract this population to Turkey, thermal tourism in Turkey can span over 12 months."
He added that thermal tourism can provide "constant employment", with an added demand for internal tourism.
Thermal tourism makes use of natural springs to develop spa-related tourist attractions, potentially worth billions of pounds of revenue.
