Tourists to take longer breaks
Owners of rental accommodation in popular tourist destinations are likely to find guests are staying for longer, it has been revealed.
According to the Federation of Tour Operators, ongoing economic problems in the UK are likely to influence people's holiday habits over the next few months, as fuel prices are going up.
Andy Cooper, director general of the organisation, believes this could result in consumers taking fewer breaks each year.
However, he said this would be offset by people taking longer holidays instead.
Mr Cooper commented: "Over the years there has been a switch from fortnight to week-long breaks, with more weekends away on top of summer holidays.
"That trend looks like it could reverse."
Speaking to the Times, he added that people from the UK still intend to take a holiday abroad this summer, despite the financial constraints they are currently experiencing.
Earlier this month, a study by eDigitalResearch revealed that nearly three-quarters of British consumers plan to spend at least a week abroad later this year.
