Tourism to generate billions for Turkish economy

Turkey's growing tourism industry could be set to generate billions of pounds for the national economy, a government official has stated.

Culture and tourism minister Ertugrul Gunay said that by 2023, the holiday sector could produce about £25 billion in revenues, reports TurkishPress.com.

Mr Gunay added that the government wants annual visitor numbers to go up to about 50 million by this time.

This bodes well for the future performance of the Turkish rental sector, as increased tourism will create extra demand for temporary lodgings.

As a result, investing in the market early could allow people to enjoy the full scope of the expansion in the country's housing market.

Mr Gunay added that Turkey's tourism sector has already experienced considerable growth in the last few years, with annual visitor numbers rising by 10 million between 2003 and 2007.

This comes after government figures cited by TurkishPress.com revealed that the country attracted 1.7 million visitors during January and February this year.
