Tourism sector continues to grow
The global tourism sector is continuing to experience growth, despite ongoing financial problems across the world.
According to Francesco Frangialli of the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), a number of factors are ensuring that the holiday industry is staying strong, reports Xinhua.
For example, he said people have become accustomed to foreign travel as part of their modern-day lifestyle, in particular retired baby boomers in Europe and North America.
Mr Frangialli added that the improved access to emerging markets in Asia is also helping to stimulate growth in the sector.
"With regular inputs from these two sources, increases in arrivals of some 4 percent a year should become the norm," he commented.
The estimates should be welcome news for owners of rental accommodation in popular holiday destinations, particularly those who rely on tourism to generate an income.
This echoes recent comments from Dermot Blastland of TUI Travel UK, who said the economic slowdown is not forcing consumers to give up their trips abroad.
He stated that this is because people now consider a holiday a necessity rather than a luxury.
