Tourism numbers up in Morocco, says minister

An increase in tourism numbers has been observed in Morocco.

Maghreb Arab Press noted that tourism minister Mohamed Boussaid told television channel 2M the industry continues to perform well.

Visits to the country were up more than 5% in the year to September, he said, news which may be welcomed by those who own buy-to-let property in the north African country.

Investors' trust in Morocco was cited as a reason for the rise, along with the government's efforts to minimise the impact of the global economic downturn.

The news source noted that figures showed an 8% increase in tourist numbers for the period from January to July this year, with a total of 5 million people heading to the country.

Jonathan Seale of CB Richard Ellis was recently quoted by the Times as stating that Morocco represents an attractive prospect for buy-to-let investors, with some property in Casablanca having the potential to double in value within the next decade.
