Tourism drives Romanian economy
Romania experienced further economic growth in 2007, according to official government figures.
The National Statistics Institute revealed that gross domestic product went up by 6% last year, reports Balkan Insight.com.
A number of different sectors were found to have experienced considerable growth throughout this period, with tourism expanding by 10%.
Meanwhile, the money generated by the construction industry increased by a third over the same 12-month period.
This suggests that the country's emergence as a popular market for overseas property buyers is helping to benefit the economy.
Interest from overseas has created additional demand for properties in prime locations, a development which directly impacted on both the construction and holiday sectors.
This comes after Ziarul Financiar revealed that tourist numbers in Romania went up by more than a quarter to 7.7 million last year.
As a result, the government is optimistic that this trend will continue during the next 12 months at least.
