Swiss reports 'increased passenger numbers'

A 10% increase in passenger numbers has been posted on flights to and from Romania by Swiss International Airlines, it has announced.

Moreover, the company saw an average occupancy rate of 88% on its flights from Bucharest to Zurich in the first six months of the year, reports zf.ro.

This was up by 5% on 2006, the company added.

A number of new flight options were made possible after the airline company was integrated into the Star Alliance Group, the sales manager of Swiss International Airlines for Romania and Moldova, Andreea Brezean, said.

"The integration of Swiss within the Star Alliance group and its partnership with Lufthansa brought multiple flight options, which contributed to the growth," the official told the paper.

As well as interests in Romania, Star Alliance also has other operations such as Austrian Airlines, Spanair and Air New Zealand.

Recently, Major Christopher Foote said that plans to locate US troops at a base in Romania could have an impact on local property prices, Stars and Stripes reported.
