'Support gained' for Gul
Turkish presidential candidate Abdullah Gul has gained the full support of a number of civil society organisations.
He said that he was committed to being a neutral leader, putting aside any personal interests, reports Today's Zaman.
During visits to a number of organisations, such as the Confederation of Turkish Labour Unions, the Labour Confederation and the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodities Exchange, he said that he would be peaceful with all sectors of society.
Mr Gul stated that he hoped the drive would enable people to uncover what kind of a politician he is.
"If I am elected president, I will do my best to improve the conditions of the society, the state and the country in the direction of the constitution. The main principles of our constitution will be my guide," he said.
The deadline for submitting nominations for the presidency is August 19th, the publication said earlier this week.
