Strong euro drives Britons to Turkey

Owners of rental accommodation in Turkey could be set to benefit from ongoing economic problems in Europe.

The British pound recently slumped to an all-time low against the single European currency and has lost nearly 20% in value over the last year.

This means that trips to eurozone countries such as Spain and Italy have become far more expensive for consumers to the UK.

However, Britons are apparently responding to this development by visiting countries with more favourable exchange rates instead.

Turkey was highlighted as one destination which is benefiting from the shifting demand among consumers.

Speaking to Reuters, Dermot Halpin of Expedia said: "Destinations outside the eurozone which are mid-haul rather than long-haul, such as Turkey, are on the up."

This comes after the Post Office reported a surge in demand for Turkish currency among British consumers.

The organisation described the country as one of the "best-value" destinations in Europe.
