Spain 'is UK buyers' favourite'
Spain is still the most popular destination for British investors in overseas property, according to a new poll.
Research by Thinkproperty.com found that more than one in three homeowners were interested in buying a property abroad some time in the future.
About one in four of these cited Spain or the Balearics as their preferred destination, with many also saying their ideal home would be located near a beach.
Mark Goddard, managing director of Thinkproperty.com, said the research gave a good indication of what homeowners wanted from an overseas property, therefore giving estate agents a clear picture of what consumers were looking for.
He added: "We have found the demand for overseas property growing steadily over the past six months and predict that it will continue to rise."
Living by a beach was found to be the favourite location for almost half of respondents, while others said they wanted to live in a town, village or rural location.
According to Halifax, average house prices in Spain have risen at a faster rate than those in any other European country since 2002.
