Spain is the 'most popular' foreign property market
Spain is still the most popular foreign property market among British buyers, new research has found.
A study by A Place in the Sun magazine revealed that the European country was the first choice destination with people from the UK, followed by France.
This is despite the growing competition from emerging markets in other parts of the world, although many of these were also found to be appealing options.
For example, Morocco was rated the 13th most popular country, while Montenegro made it to number 16.
Richard Way, editor of A Place in the Sun magazine, said the findings showed that although Britons remained traditional in one sense, many were willing to look at new destinations as well.
He commented: "It seems that Spain's mix of great weather, rich culture and beautiful coastline is keeping the country at the number one spot, but buyers aren't afraid to consider [emerging markets]."
According to Yorkshire Bank, almost half of prospective foreign property buyers would like a holiday home in Spain.
