SMEs 'optimistic' about UK economy

Those considering investments in the UK may be boosted by the news that companies are optimistic about the economy.

According to a survey conducted by uSwitchforBusiness.com, almost a third of small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expect to make a recovery in less than 6 months.

And with a further 27% predicting that it will take between 6 and 12 months to get back to normal, 81% now expect to survive the recession - compared to 76% in the first quarter of the year.

Small business expert at the site Jake Ridge observed that cost-cutting measures have helped firms feel more confident and prepared to emerge from the downturn in a strong position.

"Despite having the odds stacked against them, Britain's SMEs have battled to stay afloat and to survive the recession," he said.

It comes after the Confederation of British Industry found that companies are now more optimistic than at any point since April 2007.
