Short-haul destinations 'growing in popularity'
British people will prefer to stay closer to home for holidays in 2009, an expert has stated.
Graham McKenzie, managing director of TravelMole, suggested that the cost of long-haul breaks will prompt an increase in holidays taken in Europe, as families look to save money amid the gloomy economic outlook.
This could be good news for investors with property in countries such as Spain and France, where Mr McKenzie believes many UK people will spend their holidays in 2009 and beyond.
"I think European destinations will be the winners in all of this in the next 18 months," he said.
The travel expert identified Spain, France and Germany as popular holiday choices for the future, as well as "city destinations that still offer good value for money in terms of low-cost flights".
Homes Worldwide recently revealed how the economic downturn has boosted the
