Russian tourists 'visiting Turkey'

Turkey is proving to be an increasingly popular holiday destination with Russian tourists, official figures have shown.

The country's ministry of culture and tourism stated that between January and June this year, it received 1 million Russian and Ukrainian visitors, reports the Turkish Daily News.

According to the newspaper, tour operators have widely predicted this number to cross the 2 million mark before the end of the year.

The publication commented: "These figures mark the Russian market as a booming market for Turkey this year compared to 2006."

Last year, the number of Russian and Ukrainian visitors to the country was about 1.7 million.

The findings could be positive news for investors in the Turkish market, as rental accommodation in some areas would be largely dependent on the tourist sector.

This comes after the Ziarul Financiar reported that Turkey was also highly popular among Romanian holidaymakers.
