Rugby World Cup 'could boost French tourism'
French tourism could be set for a long-term boost as a result of this year's Rugby World Cup, according to a politician.
Foreign trade secretary Herve Novelli said that the country was aiming to build on the influx of visitors it had received this summer as a result of the sporting event, reports the Guardian.
Speaking to French television, he predicted: "This event will prove an exceptional vector for future tourism in our country."
He added that as soon as the tournament was over, the government would aim to exploit the interest and goodwill it has generated with a new advertising campaign in other countries.
Any boost to the country's tourist trade could potentially be good news for overseas property investors in the market.
Earlier this week, travel writer Martyn Davis described France as one of Europe's leading holiday destinations, as it offered a broad range of activities to visitors.
