Romanian tourism driving demand for hotels
Domestic tourism is driving the market in Romania, but the Romanian National Tourism Authority does not intend to let the country's charms go unnoticed on foreign soil.
By June this year, the National Tourism Authority and experts from the Worldwide Tourism Organisation will have set up a new plan to attract more foreign visitors, as well as promoting travel within the country.
"We should promote the country more aggressively in tourism. We won't give up promoting the country abroad, although we have plans to promote Romania inside the country," said Mihaela Barbuletiu, president of the National Tourism Authority.
Romania's current tourism campaign - Romania: Simply Surprising - has not been popular, but if the country finds a way to successfully present its message, there is a great deal of potential in the sector.
The mix of cities, coast and rural areas offers variety, and according to Bucharest-based newspaper the Diplomat, there are already calls from the industry to develop more hotels.
