Romanian rental market set to grow

Rental investors could benefit from increased tourism in Romania, new figures have suggested.

According to official government data, the eastern European country attracted 7.7 million visitors last year, reports Ziarul Financiar.

This is up on the previous year by more than quarter, thanks in part to Sibiu's status as European Capital of Culture in 2007.

As a result of this growth, the government is optimistic that this trend will continue during the next 12 months at least.

Lucia Morariu, Romania's tourism minister, said he expected this year's visitor numbers to be about 10% higher than the figure recorded in 2007.

This means that country's emerging tourist sector is likely to contribute more to the economy, while it may also serve to boost its property market.

An influx of extra visitors will push up demand for rental accommodation, while properties in highly sought-after areas could become more valuable as a result.

Romania has also attracted greater international attention as a result of its accession to the European Union last year.
