Romanian foreign tourist numbers increase by a fifth
Romania attracted 484,000 foreign tourists staying in holiday accommodation during April 2007, representing an increase of more than a fifth compared to the same period in 2006, according to official statistics.
The country's National Statistics Institute (INS) revealed that foreign tourist numbers grew by 21.4% during April 2007, with the total number of overnight stays in the country increasing by 24% to 1.28 million.
The total number of foreign visitors - including those who did not stay in tourist accommodation - reached 535,900, of which almost all were from European countries. Additionally, 58.7% of all foreign visitors came from EU states - a statistic likely to interest property investors in Romania.
The statistics from the INS demonstrated that Bucharest and the county towns were most popular for arrivals in tourist accommodation, while mountain resorts and baths also proved to be popular.
Recently, US-based firm AAA Travel reported an increase in the number of American holiday bookings to Romania, citing the fact that the weak dollar will go much further in eastern European countries.
