Romania backs Turkey's EU bid
Romania's government has come out in favour of Turkey's bid to join the European Union (EU).
Prime minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu said relations said his government supports Turkey's efforts "without reservation", reports Xinhua.
He added that it is willing to share the benefits of its experience with the Turkish government in order to shore up its bid.
Romania is itself one of the most recent members of the EU, as it joined the body at the beginning of 2007.
Mr Tariceanuj commented: "We want to offer you support based on our expertise acquired during the process of Romania's accession."
This comes soon after a state visit to Turkey by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, during which she expressed her support for the country's efforts to join the EU.
The monarch described Turkey as a "confident" and "dynamic" democracy which is uniquely positioned to act as a bridge between the east and west.
