Retirees looking to 'France and Spain'

The European countries of Spain and France remain popular choices for those looking to retire abroad, according to new figures released by Bank of Scotland International.

In the list of most preferred countries, New Zealand came in on top, while France was in joint 3rd place, the organisation stated.

Managing director at the bank Tony Wilcox said that it is important for potential overseas property investors to have an adequate level of planning in place.

"When retiring abroad it is important to have looked into your pension arrangements and to have adequate financial planning in place," he commented.

A series of tips were given to those who wish to live abroad, including advice regarding bank accounts, pensions, national insurance and currency. It added that consumers' tax situation should also be closely monitored.

Traditional areas are still popular among overseas investors - countries such as France, Spain and Italy, Baydonhill recently stated.
