Residency 'simpler process' in Portugal
It has become much simpler for European Union (EU) citizens to obtain residency status in Portugal, according to a new report.
Findings from the Resident - a paper targeted at British people who reside in Portugal - claimed that new laws have led to positives for people moving to the country on a number of fronts, reports Homes Worldwide.
These include a right to apply for exemption on property tax, better access to bank loans and mortgages and local voting rights.
Servico de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF), the residency applications body, stated that the country is now a more attractive proposition for foreign investors.
"A new law was created in August 2006, making the residency process much simpler for EU nationals," a spokesman from the organisation told Homes Worldwide.
"This has lead to waiting times dropping significantly at our offices and has saved the public a lot of time."
He added that it is also easier to register for residency in the country.
