Regional airports 'offer convenient travel'
Britons who live outside of the south-east are now able to travel abroad more conveniently, experts have said.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) stated that the growth of regional airports had made it more convenient for people who do not live near London to go abroad.
According to figures from the organisation, local hubs such as Newcastle and Liverpool handled almost half of the UK's air passengers last year and have been growing at a faster rate than their counterparts in London.
Chris Mason, spokesperson for the CAA, commented: "It's convenience really - if you're living in the north of England, you're now able to travel to a much wider range of international destinations than even a few years ago."
He added that the growth of low-cost carriers had also helped to boost the aviation sector and encourage people to travel abroad more.
This means that foreign countries are now much more accessible and affordable destinations for people in the UK.
