Regional airport sees record passenger numbers

A regional airport in the UK has reported that a record number of people are set to pass through its terminals this year.

Norwich International stated that it expected up to 23,000 passengers to fly overseas between now and the beginning of January.

The Norfolk-based facility said the number reflected the growing public awareness of how quick and easy it is to travel by air.

Louise Wilkinson, head of marketing at Norwich International Airport, commented: "I think people travel because of the sheer convenience."

Speaking to the Norwich Evening News, she added that this year's number of Christmas holidaymakers was higher than in 2006.

The airport highlighted Spain as one of the most popular festive destinations, along with France.

Last month, Co-operative Travel predicted that a total of 3.3 million Britons would go abroad for the festive season - 11% more than during the same period last year.
