Property investors 'discovering Brazil'

The benefits of buying property in Brazil are gradually becoming apparent to investors around the world, it has been claimed.

According to a spokesperson for the Embassy of Brazil in London, a lack of publicity has meant the South American country has not been touted as a major property destination in recent years.

He explained that, with Brazil now growing in popularity as an international tourist destination, the country's property market is also experiencing an increase in demand.

"It seems like the outside world has discovered Brazil, not just as a place to visit, but as a place to invest on the property market," the embassy official said.

"The English especially like to invest in property abroad, for holiday purposes, so they are discovering wonderful places where that can happen."

Figures cited by the spokesperson show that the number of completed property sales in Brazil increased by 80 per cent during 2007.

The country is also seeing interest from celebrity investors, with British cyclist and Olympic hero Chris Hoy recently buying a property in Brazil.
