Professional landlords 'taking advantage' in the UK
Property investors in the UK are taking advantage of the fact that amateur landlords need to sell up.
That is the observation of David Amstell, spokesman for Briffy.com, who explained that falling values have benefited those with experience of the sector.
Many people were encouraged to choose buy-to-let property in recent years, he noted, but falling rents have meant some have been unable to keep up mortgage repayments.
And this may have created a favourable situation for those prepared to make a long-term commitment, as Mr Amstell stated: "There are lots of professionals out there [who] have got a bit of money in their pockets and they have taken advantage and scooped up the bargains."
He was commenting after the Association of Residential Letting Agents revealed an increase in the typical number of properties per landlord.
The figures showed a rise from 6.3 to 7 in less than a year, a finding Mr Amstell described as unsurprising.
