Portuguese tourism officials predict further growth
Officials in Portugal have predicted that annual visitor numbers will go up over the next few years.
According to Euro Weekly News, the Portuguese tourist board believes the number of incoming tourists will increase by about 5.8% in 2008.
Citing a report from the Expresso newspaper, the publication revealed that the tourism industry is also seeing signs of growth this year.
For example, the number of overnight bookings in the first quarter of the year was 12.2% up on the same period of 2007.
Luis Patrao, president of Portugal's tourist board, added that the amount generated by the holiday sector also increased during this time.
The figures should be of interest to people own an overseas property in the country, particularly those who rent out their residence to holidaymakers in order to generate wealth.
According to currency specialist FC Exchange, the European country is proving to be an attractive option to foreign buyers because it offers much lower property values than many other nations.
