Portuguese property market 'showing resilience'

The property market of Portugal's Algarve region is continuing to show positive development, despite the economic downturn.

According to the Sunday Times, the Algarve remains popular with both British investors and lifestyle buyers keen to escape the UK and spend some time on the Portuguese coast.

With many new luxury golf resorts and other developments underway, the area appears determined to maintain its status as an international property hotspot.

"The number of upmarket developments being built despite the economic gloom … is testimony to the resilience of the Algarve's property market," the newspaper states.

As well as numerous new golf courses, the new Formula One racetrack which opened in Portimao last month will "bring even more international attention to the coast", according to the report.

Low-cost carrier Ryanair recently announced the launch of new flights to Faro from Glasgow, Liverpool and East Midlands airports.
