Portugal set for new airport
Plans have been announced for a new Lisbon airport, creating easier access to the city which could be of interest to those considering investing in the area.
The new airport will be located at the southern side of the river, after a long debate over location.
Reuters reports Portuguese prime minister Jose Socrates as saying: "The government has taken this decision ... because the country needs to move forward and because we need to build a new airport quickly."
Portugal already has major hubs, including Portela airport in Lisbon, Funchal and Faro, as well as other smaller local sites.
The airport in Lisbon is one of the largest in southern Europe but the new airport is thought to be needed to cope with predicted increased passenger numbers, as the economy is expected to increase by 2% this year.
At the start of the year, it was announced that Portuguese airports would be smoke-free to increase passenger comfort.
