Portugal opened up to Scottish consumers
A budget airline has introduced a new direct service between Glasgow Airport and Portugal.
Low-cost carrier easyJet is now offering flights to Faro twice a week, although this will be stepped up to thrice-weekly service over the summer.
This represents a further improvement to the accessibility of Portugal to consumers in western Scotland.
As well as opening up the market to holidaymakers, the new flights may also boost the appeal of the region to overseas property buyers.
Commenting on the move, David Osborne of easyJet remarked: "This direct route will offer all Scots the opportunity to experience the glorious Algarve from their local airport."
He added that forward bookings for this route have been "very strong", which he said shows the level of demand for direct flights to the sun.
This comes after easyJet revealed that passenger numbers in March 2008 were 20.5% up on the same period of the previous year.
