Portugal 'offers variety to visitors'
One of the major selling points of Portugal is the variety the country offers to those investing in property, it has been claimed.
The Sunday Mirror suggests that far from being the preserve of sun seekers, Portugal is also attractive to lovers of the countryside.
For example, the region of Alentejo is highlighted as an area that has retained its traditional character, despite the influx of tourists to other parts of the country.
The main town in the region is Evora, which is home to a university and, subsequently, a young atmosphere. However, other areas such as Beja and Alvito are quieter, offering the archetypal whitewashed Iberian villages.
"There is talk of a new airport to open the region up to low-cost flights and the developers who have turned so much of the Algarve into a suburban sprawl are already eyeing its green fields. Get there before they do," the newspaper recommends.
Another benefit for investors would perhaps be the laidback Portuguese lifestyle - there are 10 public holidays on the calendar.
