Portugal attracts more visitors
The number of people taking holidays in Portugal has gone up in the last year, according to new figures.
Data from the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics revealed that 23 million people visited the European country last year.
This is 5% more than the amount recorded in 2006, a development which represents a further boost to Portugal's rental market.
As a result, the country is likely to be considered a highly attractive market by overseas property investors who want to purchase rental accommodation overseas.
Portugal was found to have attracted many more American consumers last year, as the number of visitors from the US rose by 19.9%.
Commenting on the figures, Luis Moura of the Portuguese National Tourism Office said: "The increase in visitors is tied to an increase in the quality of Portugal's tourism industry."
The release of the data comes soon after Simon Perks of Santander Totta told the Resident that Portugal is "synonymous" with quality among both British and Irish property buyers.
