Portugal and Spain come together to attract tourists
Tourist authorities in Portugal and Spain are collaborating as part of a new initiative to attract visitors to both countries.
A new promotional campaign will market the two nations as prime holiday spots in Europe, in order to boost awareness and visitor numbers.
Tourist offices in both countries also hope that this will trigger a surge of investment across the region.
Commenting on the move, Javier Pinanes of the Tourist Office of Spain said: "The Iberian Peninsula offers two distinct yet culturally-rich travel destinations in one."
He added that the new marketing programme opened up new opportunities for companies to promote the two countries.
The programme could also have the impact of boosting overseas property investment in both Spain and Portugal, as buyers could benefit from increased visitor numbers.
According to e-Travel Blackboard, Spain attracted more than 58 million tourists last year, making it one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.
