Port 'could be built in Bourgas'

A new commercial port may be built in the Bourgas area of Bulgaria, if plans by the Port Bourgas Dockyards go ahead.

The firm has announced that it plans to invest 23 million leva (£7.8 million) in the project and hoped that it will be completed in three years, reports the Sofia Echo.

Executive director of the company Veselin Statev said that the proposed port would cover an area of 30,000 m².

In total, 16,500 m² of water will be drained in order to over the construction of the port, the paper said.

When it is completed, three berths for vessels will be provided, it added.

Additionally, it is believed that The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will help to finance the project.

Earlier this week, Head of the municipal council in Varna Borislav Gutsanov said he aimed to boost the area's traffic infrastructure.
