Political harmony in Turkey 'could be reached'

Turkey is getting closer to electing a new president, something that could increase the political stability in the country.

Fresh optimism has been created in Ankara regarding the move to elect a new leader by prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reports the Turkish Daily News.

In addition, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Deniz Baykal, has suggested that the new leader could be somebody without connections to any political party, something that could further ease tension.

During April, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) did not elect a new president, after failing to reach a consensus with the CHP.

A constitutional court ruling blocked the election process after the AKP failed to reach the minimum number of deputies required for an assembly.

Despite these past problems the economy in Turkey is continuing to see robust health as the Istanbul Stock Exchange sets new records, beating its own highs again on Monday.
