Plovdiv highlighted as Bulgaria's centre of music
The cultural highlight of the summer in Bulgaria will be Plovdiv's Verdi Festival running from June 20 to July 13, according to SofiaEcho.com
With the International Festival of Opera of Arts, the International Festival of Chamber Music and the Festival of Old Town Songs, classical music fans should spend "as much time as possible" in Plovdiv this June.
The festival is running for its 21st year in Plovdiv and is co-sponsored by the National Centre for Music and Dance, the municipality of Plovdiv and the Minister of Culture.
Doncetti's Love Elixir will officially open the festival with additional scheduled performances including Bellini's Norma and Strauss' Gypsy Baron.
The ancient amphitheatre, which will host to the Festival of Operatic Arts, is "the best stamp of the town" and the "first thing we recommend" to visitors, according to Plovdiv tourist information centre senior expert Frantz Kadiri.
Founded in 1964, the Academy of Music and Dance branch in Plovdiv has seen more than 5,000 students graduate from its courses and received full state accreditation in 1998.
